3 Important Fall HVAC Maintenance Tips

Your home’s HVAC unit is responsible for regulating indoor temperatures to ensure you and your family are comfortable while breathing clean air. This is why it’s important to ensure that your HVAC system is in great operating condition this coming season so as not to run into any issues. In today’s post, Thomas J. Fannon & Sons, the top air conditioner and HVAC maintenance expert, shares three important tips to prepare it for this season.

Clean out your vents. Your vents are responsible for carrying air from the outdoors to the inside of your home. This also means that they carry in dust and debris that have found their way into your HVAC vents, especially in the summer. Make sure that you clean out your vents in the fall to keep them running smoothly and to have fresh air at home. In fact, this step is extremely important because dust as thick as a hundredth of an inch on your coil and blower can result in up to 10 percent energy loss. Make sure that your vents are clean so that you can enjoy an efficient unit.

Clean your outdoor unit. Falling leaves during this season can be dangerous for your HVAC unit. The leaves that get trapped in your outdoor unit can be the cause of malfunctions and inefficiency, and in some cases they can even be a fire hazard. Other debris such as pollen, dust, dirt or twigs could’ve gotten lodged in ait s well. To prevent the need for an HVAC repair, make sure that you clean your outdoor unit regularly.

Spot your thermostat. Make sure that the temperature settings on your thermostat are sufficient for your home. This also ensures that they’re functioning properly, showing the right readings and aren’t overworked. If you happen to have a programmable thermostat, this is the perfect time to review its settings and optimize it for the season.
