How to Get Rid of Hot Spots in Your Home This Summer

Some summer days may be difficult to endure due to how the temperature rises every day. This is one of the many reasons why proper household ventilation should be prioritized. Utilizing your air conditioner usually helps; however, it may also result in further temperature imbalances that could cause excessively cold areas. As a guide, below are some simple ways to fix the hot spots in your home:

Ensure no vents are blocked. It should be noted that some rooms may have cold spots because the underside of a sofa is absorbing all the heat. Make sure that nothing is blocking your vents and that the warm air has a clear path to the rest of the area.

Look for drafts. Inspect your windows and doors for broken seals and look for any other potential sources of drafts that are working against your furnace.

Install a ductless split systemIf you’re unable to apply a solution for your home’s overall cooling system and you need a good fix for the specific room in question, you can install a ductless air conditioner, specifically a split system. This solution is ideal for spots that absorb too much heat, such as attics, basements, garages or porches.

Use a good thermostat. A zoned thermostat gives you control of the temperature in specific areas of your house. Thus, you can easily adjust for the hot spot rather than have your entire home’s cooling system working on overdrive due to that one location.

Another tip is to consider taking advantage of your windows. Bigger windows will let plenty of fresh air in and will even allow more natural light to illuminate your space.
